Has anyone got concrete evidence that suggests that different colors of mag powders have different sensitivities? I've been told by several people in the industry that yellow, for example, is less sensitive than red power. I always thought it wasn't a matter of the powder being less sensitive, but the contrast between the powder and the part being inspected that might make a difference. Basically, the powders are all the same, just dyed different colors, correct?

And what evidence do these "know it alls" offer to prove that yellow is less sensitive than red? That is the question you should be asking them. However, to offer my evidence, in Magnaflux's catalog (http://www.magnaflux.com/files/products/catalog.pdf) they offer grey, yellow, black and red powders with the ONLY selection criteria being "Choose the color that offers the best contrast to the surface you are inspecting."

NDTMAN1, keep asking good questions and when someone offers something contrary to what you know, ask them to prove it - after all, we are in a field that requires proof!
